Rosewood Reads 2025-2026

We are coming to the end of our second year of enjoying most of our books. Not all have appealed to us…can’t please them all. But it did open us to new genres and authors. We read from mysteries to historical fiction to AI and more. Our gatherings have been filled with fun, laughter and solving the world’s problems…lol!

Below are the books we read and hope one or two might pique your curiosity to enjoy over the summer months. These are all available at the Toronto Public Library.

Happy Reading and have a wonderful summer.

Brandon’s Memorial Garden

A member of our Rosewood community passed in a tragic car accident last summer. In his memory, his parents have planted a special memorial garden as part of the Rosewood Pollinator Gardens.

The plants are all native pollinator friendly and include: big blue stem, grey headed cone flower, yellow prairie grass, little blue stem, showy golden rod, lance leaf coreopsis, iron weed, wild bergamot, pearly everlasting and blackeye susan. More plants and shrubs will continue to be added over the coming months.

grade 1 pollinator garden project

On Wednesday, the grade 1&2 class completed their pollinator garden collage! Using the textured paper they made a couple days earlier, together they created: – 9 distinct native, pollinator-friendly flowers- june grass- a red oak tree- and many, many bees, butterflies and birds to inhabit the garden.

To the final collage we also added the names of each plant, and dried flower stalks, seed pods and grasses from our gardens so the students could see and compare what the real plants looked like. Here’s the final artwork, displayed on the wall outside their classroom, right next to the front entrance of the school!

June Planting in the Garden

It was a very hot day in June when a class of excited primary students were finally able to plant their seedlings (lovingly started in the winter! and cared for for many many months) into the ground at the Rosewood Pollinator Garden.

They planted sunflowers, swamp milk weed, Anise hysop, and butterfly milkweed. The students had sprouted these in the winter/spring this year. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers for your help!
